What is a hackathon?
A hackathon is an event set up by an organization, in this case Karolinska Institutet in collaboration with Openlab Sthlm, that brings together experts to get a high-quality solution of a targeted problem through collaboration.
So, what is the challenge?
After a 50 % majority vote in the NeurotechEU Student Council, the teams will be working on a challenge related to mental health. The chosen angle and exact theme will be revealed on the first day of the hack.
Profile of participants
The beauty of a hackathon is the different perspectives of each participant. Students (bachelor, master, PhD) within the broad field of neuroscience is the target group. 5 places are available for Bonn students in the first NeurotechEU Hackathon.
In order to apply, you must be a student of the following degree programs of the University of Bonn:
- MSc./PhD Neurosciences
- BSc./MSc./PhD. Psychology
- BSc. Molecular Biomedicine, M.Sc. Biochemistry, M.Sc. Immunobiology + PhD students
Why a challenge-driven hackathon?
The aim of a challenge-driven hackathon is to bring people with various perspectives together and engage you to work intensely to accelerate innovative ideas, solutions, and potential paths forward to pressing and relevant issues.
NeurotechEU is organizing this hackathon in cooperation with Openlab Sthlm, an innovation center that has been working with social innovation in the public sector for 10 years, together with the City of Stockholm, Region Stockholm and the four Stockholm universities, including KI. Openlab believes that great societal innovations come from a deep understanding of the needs and experiences of the people connected to a challenge, ensuring relevant solutions that are solving real needs. To support this way of thinking the user-centred and creative problem-solving method design thinking is applied.
